Residence Big Band
The Residence Big Band pairs playing pleasure with uncompromising professionality. This is obvious when you hear us play, “What a solid band, what power!” We can of course swing and we can also play beautiful ballads, but we most prefer to blow the roof off! This we do with funky up-tempo jazz numbers from Bob Mintzer, Ray Brown and John Labarbera, and with our preference for the songs of Stan Kenton.
To do justice to the characteristic power of Kenton, the instrumentation of the Residence Big Band is a bit larger than the “usual” big band. Besides the saxophone section, the trombone and trumpet sections also have five members. In addition the rhythm section is also considerably enlarged.
The Residence Big Band is under the direction of Wouter Klück. Wouter is a jazz trumpeter, arranger and bigband leader. He studied under Ack van Rooyen, Jarmo Hoogendijk, and Jan Oosthof. Wouter is also infected with the Kenton virus and knows how to really get the Kenton sound out of the band.
