Saturday the 2nd of June 2018 the Corendon International Big Band Competition took place. Here competed twenty big bands in two classes, the top class and the first class. The international competition is a part of the 24th edition of the TAKE OFF Music Event.

Alderman of Cultural Affairs of Haarlemmermeer Derk Reneman, together with deputy director Conservatorium Amsterdam, Edoardo Righini, director Corendon Foundation, Gunay Uslu and chairman Meer Jazz Foundation handed out the prizes.

The winners in the Top Class are:

  • 1st place: Big Band GveriLLaz from Slovenia

  • 1st place: Ventspils BigBand from Latvia

The bigbands were judged by members of an eight person jury led by the American piano player and band leader Dave Berkman. The other members of the jury are internationally renown too, like  base player Joris Teepe, the German trombone player Hansjörg Fink, the American trumpet player Kurt Weiss, the Dutch vibraphone player Frits Landesbergen, band leader Pieter van den Dolder, trumpet player and arranger Robbert Scherpenisse and trombone player Bart van Lier.
